Artist View of Painting
Napoleon – “Painting is the best way I found for express my own feelings, the way I could tell the world who I am, what do I want and what do I not want, what I am looking for. By painting, I can create my own personal and particular universe, in which I can incorporate.”
My name is Napoleon Barrera Enderle, I was born in 1970 in Monterrey, Mexico (my current home town). I am a visual artist since 1989. I also have studied at the Visual Arts School of the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon.
For me, painting is the best way to express myself, to tell the world what I am, what I want, or I don’t want, and what I’m looking for. Through painting, I can create my particular and peculiar universe, with amazing places or dreamed, imagined, lived or lost situations. By painting, I am able to find myself.
I speak specifically of real or unreal scenarios in which I can float, move, explore, live or die. My painting originates from images that arise from my mind or from a poem or from a song; those are the themes that frequently I seek to capture in my art work.
I also enjoy the portrait: I try to analyze the people I paint. I aim to understand their psyche, and the result is the face of a human being but filtered through my own perception. For me, oil painting is the best solution to capture what I want to do; its texture gives me that possibility. Usually the size of my work is the medium format (40 x 80 cm) – (16 x 32 in) – but I am also familiar to other formats and dimensions.
During all these years, I have exhibited my work (both individually and collectively) in different art galleries and cultural centers in cities from Mexico, the United States, and Italy.
